Elocom (Mometasone Furoate) belongs to the class of medications called topical corticosteroids. It works by reducing inflammation, itching, and irritation of the skin.

What is it used for?
For the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The lotion formulation may be applied to scalp lesions.

Contraindications and cautions:
Eyes and skin: The lotion contains isopropyl alcohol and may cause stinging or burning when applied to damaged or sunburned skin. Do not use in or near the eyes.
Infections: You may experience an infection in the treated area while using a topical corticosteroid. If this is the case, contact your doctor for instruction regarding treatment.
Internal absorption: Absorption of topical corticosteroids will increase if large areas are treated or if dressings that don't breathe are used. This is especially important for infants and children.
Poor circulation: If you have poor blood circulation, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using Elocom (Mometasone Furoate).
Pregnancy: If you are or may be pregnant, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using Elocom. Pregnant women should not use Elocom (Mometasone Furoate) in large amounts or for prolonged periods of time.
Breast-feeding: Since it is not known whether Elocom passes into breast milk, speak to your doctor and decide whether to stop nursing or to stop the medication.
Children: Children may be more likely to experience side effects from Elocom (Mometasone Furoate). The risk of side effects increases when large body areas are treated, when treatment lasts for a long time, and when dressings that don't breathe are used.

Side effects:
The side effects listed below are not experienced by everyone who takes Elocom.
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:
Less common or rare:
• blood-containing blisters on skin
• burning and itching of skin
• lack of healing of skin condition
• numbness in fingers
• painful, red or itchy, pus-containing blisters in hair follicles
• raised, dark red, wart-like spots on skin, especially when used on the face
• skin infection

Interactions:
Other topical medications that contain corticosteroids or that have irritating effects may affect how Mometasone Furoate works or increase the risk of side effects.
If you are using any medications that fit this description, speak with your doctor or pharmacist. Depending on your specific circumstances, your doctor may want you to:
• stop taking one of the medications,
• change one of the medications to another,
• change how you are taking one or both of the medications, or
• leave everything as is.
Medications other than those listed above may interact with Elocom.
