Paxil has a variety of indications for its use, including in the treatment of such conditions as major depression, social phobia/social anxiety disorder, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), , GAD (generalized anxiety disorder),panic disorder, OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)and PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).
Paxil should always be taken orally. You can buy Paxil in tablet form or as a liquid suspension. Always take Paxil in the way and amount you have been told to use it by your doctor.
Precautions:
Paxil should not be used by anyone who is under the age of 18. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should also not use Paxil as it may cause cardiovascular malformations in their unborn child. Anyone who is taking pimozide, thioridazine, tryptophan, or warfarin should also not use Paxil. Paxil should not be taken in combination with antidepressant Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), or shortly after discontinuing their use. Always talk to your doctor if you have any worries or concerns about using Paxil.
Side Effects:
As with any drug, you may have an allergic reaction to Paxil. You should call your doctor immediately if you develop hives, a skin rash, difficulty breathing or swelling of your throat, lips, face or tongue. You should also call your doctor right away if you start to bruise or bleed easily, feel nauseous or develop diarrhea, have difficulty concentrating or get a headache, or feel aching joints or think you have a fever. Hallucinations, unsteadiness or difficulty breathing also mean that you should contact your doctor.
Side effects that are less serious include dizziness, sleep problems, changes in your weight, a lessened sex drive and a dry mouth.
