Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic indicated to treat urinary tract infections, acne and chlamydia.
Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic which mechanism of action consists in inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis. Minocycline is used to treat acne, actinomycosis, bacterial infection, bullous Pemphigoid, meningitis, meningococcal pemphigoid, pemphigus, rheumatoid arthritis, rosacea, skin and structure infection, skin infection, gonorrhea, and chlamydiosis. Dosage and directions This medication is taken with or without food with a big glass of water. Avoid taking Minomycin with dairy products. Take exactly as prescribed, never exceed your dose or take the medication longer than it was recommended by your doctor. Do not crush, chew or break an extended-release pill. If it is a liquid suspension shake it before use and measure with a special dose measuring spoon.

Precautions:
This medication is not recommended in patients with pregnancy, breastfeeding, children younger than 8 y.o. (long use may cause permanent color change of teeth). Avoid long exposure of your body to UV radiation. Avoid taking of iron supplements, multivitamin pills, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives at the same time as Minomycin, take these medications two ours before or after Minomycin intake. If you need to do work associated with high concentration of attention (driving) be especially careful.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Minomycin and other tetracycline antibiotics.

Side effects:
Following side effects may occur while using this medication: hives, rash, swelling of face and tongue, trouble swallowing, severe headache, dizziness, blurred vision, fever, chills, body aches, severe blistering, peeling, urinating less than usual or not at all, pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, confusion or weakness, severe pain in your upper stomach, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate, jaundice, easy bruising or bleeding.

Interaction:
It is advisable to avoid giving tetracycline-class drugs in conjunction with penicillin. They may also depress plasma prothrombin so adjustment of Minomycin dose administered together with anticoagulant therapy is needed. Absorption of tetracyclines and Minomycin in particular is impaired by antacids containing aluminum, calcium or magnesium, and iron-containing preparations. The concurrent use of tetracycline and methoxyflurane may result in fatal renal toxicity. Minomycin interacts with certain birth control pills and may make it less effective.

Missed dose:
If you missed a dose take it when remember. If it almost time of your next dose just skip it and return to your regular schedule. Never take a double dose of this medication.

Overdose:
In case of serious and persistent symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea consult your doctor about medical attention.
